So sad that dear Solly (King Solomon) had to be put down last week at 24 yrs old. Lymphangitis which started last year had been well under control, but unfortunately one hind leg started to fill right up again and with the vets advice we made the decision to put him down before the skin started to split and become sore and uncomfortable for him. Solly was a sweetheart..as a young horse he was very spooky and careful so much so I felt he would never be a top class event horse. Gill Robinson owned Solly and Ascot Timber Buildings sponsored him. It was the gradual build up of trust which enabled him to produce the wonderful results we had, as he was not naturally brave! His highlights were winning 3 CCI*** events in a row, finishing 3rd, 4th and 5th at Burghley, 4th at Badminton and helped me win my first Olympic silver medal in Athens. After retiring from eventing at 16 yrs old he had a wonderful second career doing pure dressage very successfully with Paula Lee (living 10 miles from me). She looked after him beautifully giving him a wonderful retirement he so deserved. Good bye Solly and thank you.
