Ups and downs of the Eventing life!

Posted on Posted in Mary King, News and reviews

I am having a bit of a low spot at the moment… following a fall on each of my top horses (Imperial Cavalier at Barbary Horse Trials and Kings Temptress at Salperton Horse Trials). I have now had bad news that both will miss the Autumn season due to minor tendon injuries.

Gosh, the ups and downs of this sport are hard. Mind you, I’ve been at it long enough so should know thats how it goes… I always say to people to keep your chin up when you are having a down time and enjoy the good times to the full, as they won’t last for ever!

I will really miss riding in the British Team at the European Championship.

This also means I won’t have a ride at Burghley this Autumn, or in the British Open Championships at Gatcombe next week. But Jay (MHS King Joules) and Chubby (Cavalier Venture) are qualified for the Intermediate Champs at Gatcombe, so I can give them my all! Lottie (Kings Choice) has had a couple of good placings at BE100 level and is doing her first novice this weekend at Wilton.

The ground is pretty rubbish at the moment and although I don’t like saying it as I love the sun, but I hope it rains hard soon!

Emily’s update
Emily is going extremely well and is on track for selection for the Junior European Championships at Jardy just south of Paris the second week of September. She has won 3 of the Junior trials this Spring, 1 on Patsy Mason’s Mr Hiho and 2 on Nikki Harwood’s Brookleigh. Her final trial is at Aston Le Walls on Aug 8th after which they will announce the team.

A lovely family holiday sailing in Turkey with 2 other families was very welcome following my falls. We had a fabulous time on a gulet (sailing boat with toys…windsurfer, canoes, snorkelling kit etc. attached). Great fun!!
