Hurray the event season has started! The ground at Moreton Horse Trials in Dorset dried up just in time to run, which was wonderful. Emily rode 3 and I rode 2. Lottie (Kings Choice) felt lovely and much more grown up than last year. A good dressage and double clear was just slightly marred by lack of brakes on the down hill parts of the XC – a change of bit is on the cards for Tweseldown next week!! Dan (King Dan) led his BE100 section after dressage (good boy!), but had a slight steering problem on the XC which needs addressing. I’m looking forward to starting Tess’s spring campaign the following weekend at Aldon Horse Trials.
Emily and I had 3 XC clinics arranged at Stockland Lovell and Bicton, but with all the rain in Feb they sadly had to cancel. This also made it hard to prepare the horses for the first events, but thank goodness for Pontispool Arena XC (and for people further up north – Aston Le Walls and Somerford) – its not like the real thing, but is very helpful preparation.
Through Feb we also did more BS jumping at Summerhouse and Bicton, and went to Ferdi for dressage lessons. My three 5 yr olds have been show jumping and arena XC schooling, and are gradually getting more balanced and trusting.
David and I have been invited to the Cheltenham Festival this week, there is some very exciting racing in store.
My new book ‘Mary King – My Way” has been selling well at the various lecture/demos and talks I have done this month. Remember you can order copies online at www.acanthuspress.ltd.uk/shop, I will sign and personalise them through March if requested on the order form 🙂
