The horses are enjoying starting work again

Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and that this year is a happy and successful one for us all!

The horses are enjoying starting work again having had a great winter holiday with relatively mild weather. Nick Rule, our farrier, came and shod them all, and now its a few weeks of walking on the roads, gradually increasing the length and amount of hill work.

Tess (Kings Temptress) was shod 3 weeks before the others, as due to her time off with an injury I thought it was sensible to do an extra few weeks road work with her. She continued to live out but I hacked her each day. I have also been working away with Billy, Bobby and Joey the three homebred 4 yr olds – whoops I mean 5 yr olds now!!! They are coming on well and are jumping small courses with barrels, fillers and water trays, and are beginning to work in a correct outline. I clipped them yesterday for the first time and they look soooo grown up. They still live out 24/7, but with nice warm Bucas rugs on!

This year I have Tess aiming for Badminton – very exciting (yes, I still get excited at the thought of riding at such a great event!). The “The Mares Team” syndicate, who help owner Derek Baden with the running costs of Tess, has 2 new members for 2015 – Liz Knowler and Fenella Hughes. Thank you to the other members Gilly Robinson, Dick Orchard and Tony and Hazel Fastnedge for their continued support.

Lottie (Kings Choice) will work away getting established at intermediate level this year and will be aiming for her first CCI**. Dan (King Dan) will be competing at novice level and aiming for his first CCI*, and then Billy, Bobby and Joey will be making their debut into eventing sometime during the Spring when I feel they are ready.

Emily has Brookleigh, Walitze F Vegjard, and Charlemagne at advanced level, a new horse called Drago competing at Intermediate level, and has a new ride arriving from Australia in a couple of weeks.
